Liver Transplant Recipient 4/2/97

My Doctors !

Some of the many, many people responsible for me still being alive. That's Michelle, my Transplant Coordinator hiding in the background. She keeps everyone organized and working together. On the right is my regular doctor, Jonathan Riegler, MD. Next to him is my surgeon, John "The Hands" McVicar, MD. The three others are doctors I saw while in the hospital recovering?

A picture of me in the middle after I was allowed to get out of bed. I went into surgery on 4/2/97 at approximately 7 a.m. and didn't get out until around 3:30 p.m. My wife, mother and immediate family were in the lobby waiting the entire time. My first waking moments were shortly after the operation as they tried to bring me out of my sleep to see if I was OK. I remember them asking if I knew who this person was looking over me. It was my wife trying to put on a smiling face. I nodded, YES !

Dr.and patient !
This is Dr. Steven Rudich, the surgeon who removed the liver from the donor the night before my operation. He also assisted in my transplant operation the next morning.

All the staff at the UC Davis Transplant Center were very professional and very caring all the way through the process.

* My Special Thanks to them all ! ! !

This is my personal Vampire Squad...... I see this lady about once every 2 - 4 weeks to get my "Blood Sucked". This should change soon, to about once a month.

*  There is so much to tell, that I wouldn't know where to start, but in brief...
I had been living with serious Liver problems for 3 yrs before my transplant and had a damaged liver (unknown to me) for at least 25 yrs. I have seen another Christmas and I now have 2 birthdays because someone was generous enough to be a donor. Thanks to all that helped me to be here -
Sincerely, Geno Bartley
