...Kaiser hep C patients in Colorado may attend 4 classes about their disease and treatment options. In other regions, Kaiser patients should call their membership office to inquire.
..."Heptazyme" will enter Phase II clinical trials for treatment of hepatitis C in the first quarter of 2001.
...A recent study concludes that zinc supplementation may lead to improvement in symptoms associated with muscle cramps in cirrhosis.

The Nov 2000 HCV Advocate reported on studies with "Pegasys" (pegylated interferon by Roche) :
...After 4 weeks of a 48 week study of combination therapies with "Pegasys", the following percentages of patients were HCV negative:
Interferon + ribavirin = 11%, Pegasys + CellCept = 17%, Pegasys + ribavirin + amantadine = 18%, Pegasys + amantadine = 33%. At 4 weeks, the most favorable outcome was Pegasys + amantadine even when compared to Pagasys + ribavirin + amantadine.
...After 48 weeks using either "Pegasys" or "Roferon" (standard interferon by Roche, 3MIU 3x week), virologic response was predictive of histologic response.
...Over-40-yr-old HCV infected patients are 3 times more likely to have type 2 diabetes than people without HCV.
